I have read Beverly Lewis books before and usually enjoy them. I would rate this one as merely okay.I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator's voice came out sounding too little-girlish for my liking. I felt it tainted some of the story and made certain sections sound like a spoiled brat was saying them--I'm not sure that was the intent of the author.Early on in the book, much is made of Lettie having a secret. In fact, it was hinted at so often that I wished the author would either just let us readers in on the secret so we'd know (even if the other characters didn't) or just reveal it so we could move on.We do eventually learn Lettie's secret (or at least part of it), but there are other plot points that aren't resolved. Will Lettie return to her family on her own? Will her daughter Grace go searching for her--and if Grace does find her, will she convince Lettie to come home? What happened to the baby? (I have a suspicion on that, but only reading further in the series will know if my suspicion is correct.) Will Heather's father build a house on the Lancaster County land he purchased? Will Heather get treatment for her illness? Will she ever get to see the holistic healer?Just too many unanswered plot points for me to give this more than an average rating.

I typically love everything written by Lewis but this was an exception. For the first time since I can remember, I stopped the book 3/4 of the way through. It was one depressing thing after another, no hope or encouragement. I couldn't connect with the characters, and found I didn't care what happened to Lettie or why she left. Overall very disappointing and lackluster. Just glad it was free on my kindle.

I'm trying to find a way to give some grace to this story, but I was so disappointed, I can't. Like most Beverly Lewis stories, this one held my interest, even to the point of keeping me up well past my bedtime. However, the multiple story lines, plethora of characters, and lack of main focus made this book less than satisfactory. This book is not a classic romance novel. The Women's fiction genre is more appropriate. It almost could be described as a tragedy. There is no happily ever after ending, not even adequate resolution to the story lines. This reviewer simply cannot give this book more than three stars. I'm hoping the sequel will fix some of these issues.

Seasons of Grace book 1 sets the foundation for the books to follow. Lettie Bylar leaves her Amish family apparently going to see her first love. She has a secret that her husband and children do not know about. She had a child and the child is adopted by Englishers. In the book a girl named Heather is diagnosed with cancer and she is seeking natural treatments. She decides to go to Lancaster County, because her mother used to love it there. My imagination is running wild in this first book. I am wondering when the connection will be made. Meanwhile Grace ponders if she should break off her engagement with Henry. With Lettie gone everybody is sad. I can't believe she left her family without even talking to them,., You will have to read the other books in the series to find out how things turn out. I have just started Book 2

Grace Byler lives in Lancaster County, and her life is that of a typical Amish young woman. Yes, she's a little older than most girls to be still at home, but she has her mind set on a specific young man, and she's waiting patiently for him to ask her the big question. In the meantime, there have been some strange going-ons in the household. Her mother, Lettie, has taken to weeping into the stillness of the night, and going off on walks under the light of the moon after the family is asleep. After a month of strange behavior and growing aloofness, Grace's mother disappears into the night. The entire family is left reeling from the sudden departure of their mother, and nothing can be done to get her back.A young Englisher named Heather Nelson comes to stay for the summer at the neighbor's home, desperately trying to put her cancer diagnosis behind her. Terrified because her adoptive mother died pf cancer, she escapes to Amish country to clear her mind and her heart. Truly convinced she can beat her cancer naturally instead of doing chemo, she meets and befriends Grace at the local health food store. What kind of plans does God have for these two brokenhearted young women? Will Lettie ever return to her family? And will Heather find the healing for her body and soul? While I found this story to be enjoyable and thoroughly entertaining, my only gripe was that it was somewhat repetitive. Yes, we know Heather is sick, yes, we know Lettie up and disappeared, and yes, we know it's not typical for Amish mothers to do that. We've also read multiple times that Judah is not a man of many words, and I understand the concept. But all trivial things aside, this series kept me up all hours, reading way into the night, wondering what would happen to everyone in the end. I was actually taken by surprise at one point, because I didn't see a plot twist coming and got completely blindsided by a major element in the story. While it wasn't the best of the best, it was a solid read, and well worth it.

Beverly Lewis is one of my favorite authors. This book was well written, however, there were many separate plots. When the book ended, it left you dangling on the edge with very little resolution. I don’t like to have to buy the next book just to see how the last one ends. I prefer to finish one book completely and then read a separate sequel.
